My Story

Weight Loss

I have recently lost over thirty pounds. It was not easy, but it was the easiest weight I have ever lost. For the first time in my life, I can look at delicious temptations and say no, and not feel like I'm missing anything. This is a big deal for me because I don't feel bad about the weight loss as I have in the past. Up until this change in thinking, I would struggle with diets, and obsess about all the wonderful things I did not get to eat, and fantasize about what I would eat once I was at my perfect weight. That was a recipe for disaster. It was weight gain waiting to happen.

I am closing in on my target of losing forty pounds, but I think I'm going to see if I can actually lose more (if it's still healthy). I believe I will have more to give, and it doesn't concern me to keep living like this, and eating the way I eat. I'm not dying to eat a dessert or wolf down some ice cream. I don't envy people that eat a donut in the morning, have a cheesebuger for lunch, steak and potato in the evening, and top it off with ice cream while watching television. (Not that there is anything wrong with any of that.)

If I never lose another pound, I'd be okay with it because I feel I am eating the healthiest food, and in the proper portions, that I have in my life. I feel that I am doing the right thing. I am at peace with food, I enjoy exercise, and all of that is great. My life is not perfect, and neither are my habits, but I'm no longer on the yo-yo effect of diet and weight gain.

I should announce right now that I have struggled with my weight for thirty years, since I was thirteen, and tried nearly every diet, several supplements, and far too many gimmicks. What is different this time is a life coach whose book and blog allowed me to think differently. It was Phillip J. Eby at dirtsimple.org. I don't want to present him as a type of Rasputin that controls the mind (he's not) but he does have very useful techniques for helping you sort through your goals, purpose, and obstacles in life. He also has a clear and simple writing style that brought clarity to my own thinking.

Listen to Your Body

If you have any doubts about your health, or suspect you have things going on that limit you ability to maintain a healthy weight, see your doctor. There are very real things going on with our very complex systems, and a single misfire in our body can change the behavior of everything. What I think is whackiest is to treat food as the gimmick itself to change your apetite. Strive for a balanced diet, and work with your doctor.

My Weight Loss History

I believe it is useful to hear about the struggles and success of others as we try to find our proper balance in life, and so I will relate my own history of struggles as the rest of the site is dedicated to my success.

I am also inviting others to offer their success stories. If you'd like to share, you may use our W8 Monitr contact page or e-mail your story to W8Monitr@hadick.com.
