The Hadick Year in Review December 2005
- Emily ended up in three stage productions during the year. The big, whiz-bang musical in January, then another musical during the summer, and, finally, something called "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever," which was notable because one of the other child actors vomited during one of the shows. She also has the inside track on a part in a situation comedy which is scheduled to begin filming here in the Lansing area next year, but more about that later.
- Alex was on a soccer team in the spring that won a tournament, beating some tough competition from around Michigan and Illinois. He joined another premier team for the fall, and they played hard but with little success. His local team won their league, however, and is now qualified for a national indoor soccer tournament in February.
- Mickey took a job with a local insurance company, and he is very happy with the move. Good work and good people. He has joined Toastmasters there to improve his toasting.
- Mary is still on contract at the State on the same project. She seems happy, but you never know what someone is really thinking until it's too late and they snap. Then suddenly the orange juice tastes funny, and they're never the same again.
- The family made a wicked road trip to Wisconsin for Tasha's wedding, driving through the night Friday to get to the church on time, and then heading back on Monday. This was because of various scheduling difficulties not worthy of further discussion.
- The family spent some weekends in Port Clinton visiting with Allie and Steve and their families in July. Mickey spent a week, as well, with Margaret and they both enjoyed visits from other family members.
- The family then visited Stu and family in Allentown. From there we made day-trips to Manhattan and Philadelphia, and then visited Hershey and Cedar Point on the way back, but that was just like showing off at that point.
- Emily enjoyed cheerleading in the fall. She is also doing that singing and dancing stuff, and won first prize at a community fair talent show, and, because of that, was invited to do her song and dance routine, "Singin' In the Rain", live on a Grand Rapids television show, which don't really happen every day.
- Alex played baseball in the summer and is now complementing indoor soccer with basketball. The sports stuff he gets, but the school stuff is starting to get in the way.
- We got a piano in February, thinking both children would take lessons. Emily enjoys playing, but it turned out to not be Alex's thing. Mickey and Mary are self-studying. Mickey was inspired, however, to take accordion lessons using one of Alfred's accordions. He is slowly getting the hang of it.
- Mary is busy with lots of kid-coordinating, but still finds time to feed the birds and work the flower gardens around the house. She also took in some cats on a foster care basis. Things have finally settled down between them and the dogs.
- Mickey interrupted writing the third novel when struck with the idea of writing, producing, and directing a low-budget situation comedy. He has the first few scripts written, has recruited some of the local acting talent to star, and is now in pre-production. You can look at HadickEntertainment.com for some information about the story. Otherwise, look for the show "All Others Pay Cash" on Google video come spring.
Nothing to complain about this year. In between school, work, and church, these were the highlights.
Hope all is well with all who read this.
